Back coating units that apply a thin coat of SBR latex to woven carpet with a kiss roll, locking the fibres and the weft without changing the face feel.

SBR latex application units apply a thin coat of latex (sizing) to the back of woven carpet. A kiss roll partly immersed in the coating trough lightly touches the carpet back and transfers the latex; a doctor blade removes the excess and controls the coat thickness. This thin coat locks loose fibres and the weft, prevents yarn shifting and tuft shedding and gives the carpet stability; the back does not turn stiff or rubbery, and the face feel of the carpet is unchanged.

Carpet path
SBR latex application line — the carpet path over an example layout drawing Side view of an example woven carpet back coating line. The carpet travels left to right: after guiding and centring and the J-box it is beaten and cleaned, its weft is straightened and it is steamed; at the kiss roll coating unit its back takes a thin coat of latex. It passes the drying and heating chambers and the drying drum, returns under the chambers to be cooled, and after the polishing cylinder, the J-box and the shearing unit it is folded at the plaiter. The path is shown as a red line. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 7 8 10 9 11 12 13 12 14
